Top Class Photography

£875 per person including all transport to and from Oban and accommodation

We visit four different islands and three different puffin colonies on this unique puffin and seabirds wildlife photography tour. Amazing photography, have a wonderful adventure and do real science!

This is your chance to not only get some incredible images of Puffins but explore some of the best islands in the Inner Hebrides.

We visit Staffa, Muck and Lunga, all from our base on Coll. Doing top class wildlife photography on all the islands we are on.

Accommodation
Accommodation is included on this tour. You will be staying in the Coll Bunkhouse, which is a superb community run hostel. We have single sex rooms so you will only share with the same sex. There is an option to upgrade to a hotel room but this will depend on availability when booking made and will require a fee increase.

Agenda Day One
  • 0630 Meet up and get ferry to Coll

    Foot passenger ticket is included in the price of the tour.

  • 0955 Arrive on Coll

    We go straight to our accomodation, check in and sort gear out

  • 1300 Staffa photography trip and flight photography masterclass

    We get our private charter boat from Coll to Staffa, we go straight to where the puffins are and do a Puffin Flight Masterclass Tutorial. We then aim to get some cracking flight shots with puffins and fish in there mouth.


    If we have time we will also go to a wee secret spot that is wonderful for photographing fulmars in flight and you will get time to explore fingals cave

  • 1700 Back to Coll

  • 1900 Evening digital session (optional)

    Learn how to process pictures, pick all the ones of fish in mouth, and upload to rspb website with help from Philip if needed. Discussions of how to improve success rate for the next day.

Agenda Day Two
  • 1000 Coll island wildlife photography (optional)

    We target waders, hen harriers, hares, seals

  • 1600 Sunset puffin photography trip to Lunga

    We go to lunga, the best colony on the west coast for photography. We will stay till the sunsets enabling you to get superb late evening images in this magical location. It is not just Puffins, we will spend time with all the other incredible birds on the island

  • 2200 Back to Coll

Agenda Day Three
  • 1000 Digital Session

    Learn how to process pictures, pick all the ones of fish in mouth, and upload to rspb website with help from Philip if needed. Discussions of how to improve success rate for the next day.

  • 1300 Island of Muck puffin photography trip

    We go to the island of Muck to try and get some puffins with fish in mouth, we may take in Rum, Eagles and much more on the trip back to Coll.

  • 1700 Back to Coll

Agenda Day Four
  • 0800 Corncrake Photography Session

    Searching for the illusive Corncrake.

  • 1215 Ferry terminal for return to Oban

  • 1525 Arrive back in Oban

Bad Weather? The reason we are spreading our island adventure over 3 days is so that if we get some bad weather hopefully we will always get one day that will be good. If any of the days are too windy to get out on the boat, we will do fantastic wildlife photography on Coll. There is plenty to fill our time with including Otters, Corncrakes, Waders and much more.
Beaver photography tour
What you learn: Camera settings and techniques for both portrait and action wildlife photography including shutter speeds and aperture. Seabird field craft and ecology. Computer skills.
Equipment: SLR, 300mm lens or longer, a wide angle lens, computer/tablet for reviewing images. We can provide any equipment you need, just let us know.
Location: Island of Coll, we start and finish in Oban
Time: 0615 on the first day, finishing 1525 on the final day

Accommodation:A bed in a single sex dorm is included - Coll Bunkhouse 
Fitness: some walking on coastal paths and scrabbling over wet rocks to get on islands.
Food: We will provide tea and coffee, but you will need to provide your own food. There are shops, cafes and restaurants on Coll, there is also great cooking facilities at the bunkhouse.
