Wildlife Photography and Conservation Tour

3 days photographing the elusive Otter in some of the best mainland locations for otters in the whole country. We spend the tour tracking, following and hopefully doing lots of Otter photography.

Tour Location: Tayvallich (Argyll)

We spend the first 2 days exploring some of the most magical coastal habitat in Scotland looking for and hopefully getting some super close encounters with the Eurasian Otter.

The 3rd day is a day for science and habitat restoration but will be used for photography if the previous 2 days don't go to plan.

Otter photography tour
Putting something back....
By booking on this tour you enable us to monitor this population of otters. We are teaming up with the mammal society to help them with their national program of studying British mammals in order to protect them.

Your photography will help your guide Philip identify individuals, track population dynamics, and monitor what they eat. In essence this tour will be a survey and you and your photography will be key to that survey. You will not only learn lots about Otters, get great images but you will also learn how to survey for this incredible animal.
Agenda Day One & Two
  • 0700 Meet Up

Meet up and chat through tours agendas and camera requirements. Tayvallich Village Shop.

  • 0730 Otter Photography

We walk around all the local Otter territories looking for Otters, this may take minutes or all day depending on our luck and weather conditions. Over 2 days we usually get multiple sightings and photographic opportunities but we just never know what will happen. Be prepared for some long waits and long walks.

  • 1100-1300 Lunch

At some point we break for lunch, this will entirely depend on otters behaviour when we do this

  • 1600 Finish

You can spend as long as you wish in the hide but the tour will come to an official end around 1600. Philip does tend to hang around as you sometimes get amazing images later on.

  • Evening review

If people have some images we can meet up in evening for a drink and review. With the photographers permission some of these can then be used to monitor individual animals on our database.

Agenda Day Three
  • 1000 Meet Up

Unless we have had no luck in previous days, then we might do another Otter photography day which will start at 0700, this will be decided at the end of day 2.

  • 1030 Otter Field Signs Monitoring and Litter Pick

We walk around all the local Otter territories looking for field signs to log on to our survey. We also pick up any litter we see.

OR if we need we will use this day for more photography if the previous 2 days have not been as succesful as people would have hoped for.

  • 1300 Finish
