Grey seal pupping widlife photography and conservation tour

A wildlife photography tour photographing Grey Seals on a remote pupping beach. A proper wilderness experience watching some of the best wildlife action you will see anywhere in the world. We attempt to photograph the pups, mums, bulls fighting and anything else that happens in this epic location.

We go for both action and portraits, near and far. We also explore how to get great animal in there environment type shots. You will be metres from these huge and beautiful creatures all day.
Due to nature of the beach, with lots of rocks to hide behind, the animals don't even know we are there and thus there is no disturbance to these incredible animals at this vulnerable time of year.

And you get to help the conservation of grey seals too. We are teaming up with Seal Conservation Society to gather data to help both protect seals and also help with the rehabilitation of seal pups. Your photography will be key to this and you will be involved in all the data gathering we are doing. As some of this will include time lapse and video, you get to learn even more photography skills. Data your photography and you will help us get:
  • Time lapse to record how often seals come out to feed young
  • 5 min video clips of mum feeding pup (will help with assessing behaviour of pups in rehabilitation)
  • Density of pups on beach (how many and how spaced out they are)
  • ID photos of individuals to monitor population
  • Stages of pup development

Covid-19 Safe

  • You will need your own transport to get from our meet location to where we can find seals.
  • Please bring all your own refreshments and food as none will be provided to keep in line with government advice.
  • This workshop is all outside and can be easily done with social distancing in place.
  • Day two's agenda maybe more photography time rather than picture processing, depending on whether we can safely be inside as a group. This will be decided a week before the tour

  • 1300 Time lapse Review

Wild Animals - what if they don't turn up? We only use wild animals for all our workshops. Philip works extremely hard to make sure you have the very best chance of seeing and photographing the target species, however as they are wild animals no guarantees are given on success and the agenda may change. If in the unlikely event we don't see the animal we are aiming for you will get a free hide session of your choice from our rental hides provided by Loch Visions.
