Scavenger and Crazy Bull

Are gulls beautiful and are they worth calling wildlife, and is it wildlife photography to photograph them. YES YES YES and YES.

This wonderful, striking, and superbly agile Herring Gull is a master of the air and a scavenger beyond compare.

An incredibly well adapted animal that has managed to continue to be succesful in the face of constant pressure and persecution from the human race.

I use this beautiful animal to do our Flight Masterclass, however I have never myself had the chance to do what I teach, until a very kind student who had come to do some work experience 'offered' to do a bit of role reversal, hence I got to do the photography. Fantastic for me and I am extremely grateful to her! What an animal.

One of the highlights of the last month had to be the adventurous grey seal weekend. What a fantastic few days we had. We saw seals fighting, mating, succling, we came face to face with the fantastic yawning babies, we watched a pod of dolphins swim by, watched gannets feeding and had an incredible encounter with the british land speed record holder, the brown hare.

Life does not get much better than that. Next up Mull and roaring Red Deer, I can't wait!

Below is my picture of the dominant bull that has been patrolling the water round the colony for the last few years. When I photographed him he had certainly been in the wars but wait to you see him now he has collected a whole new world of battle scars.

See our guest gallery to see the state of him. His the one that looks like a Doctor Who character! What a fighter he is. We had a magnificent view of him telling a youngster how it is done, a brutal show of power and strength.
